Hong Yip has always been "people-oriented” and has been supporting the "Youth Upward Mobility Mentorship Program (YUM Program)” of the Hong Kong Church Network for the Poor (HKCNP) for the seventh year, to provide young people who are seeking their career path with a platform for on -job training, counselling and education subsidy, an alternative pathway apart from further studies.
This year, a total of 12 mentees from Hong Yip and its associate company, Lik Kai Engineering Company Limited, joined the program; while 4 mentors from Christian & Missionary Alliance Mei Foo Church were recruited as mentors to help the growth of youth. On February 17, we held a kick-off ceremony for this YUM Mentorship Program, aiming to help mentees adopt to their new jobs, enhance their sense of belonging to the company, grow under mentors’ coaching. Furthermore, in this year we particularly designed a lot of interactive elements and diversified group activities apart from classes and workshops, so that all mentees would get more involved and committed in their relationship with each other while having work and training balance.
In the ceremony, Mr. Alkin Kwong, Chairman and Chief Executive of Hong Yip, welcomed the new comers to join the Hong Yip family and shared with them the corporate culture of SHKP and Hong Yip - Building Homes with Heart, team spirit, Serving Customers with Heart, and continuous learning. He shared the importance of life mentorship and encouraged young people to seize opportunities to equip themselves and plan their future. He also emphasized the importance of persistence.
Since 2017, Hong Yip has been encouraging young people to join the "YUM Program" of the HKCNP. The program does not only provide on-job training for trainees to learn soft and hard skills in the workplace, but also tuition fee subsidies for them to attend courses to enhance themselves and increase competitiveness. Moreover, through the guidance and counseling offered by the mentors to help solve work and life problems of trainees, it is expected that it can help them establish correct and positive values in life and lay a solid foundation for their future.
