Waste Recycling Campaign in Housing Estates 2000

In such a cement forest like Hong Kong, the promotion of environmental concern is very difficult. However, the residents of Wonderland Villas have strived for this end successfully via the impact of neighborhood unity.

Therefore, it is not surprising that the Wonderland Villas won the championship of Waste Recycling Campaign in Housing Estate (Phase I) in 1998, which was organized by the Environmental Campaign Committee. It was followed by an in-house function named ‘Charity planting for the Elderly’ and was greatly supported by the residents. In addition, an activity named ‘Green Christmas Carnival’ which was jointly organized by Wonderland Villas Owners' Committee, Hong Yip Service Company Ltd. and subsidized by the Environmental Campaign Committee, has been successfully held at Wonderland Villas every Christmas since 1998.

In 1999, Wonderland Villas won three prizes in Waste Recycling Competition (Phase II). One of them was the ‘Five Star Environmental Estate’ which was the first of its kind in Hong Kong. In fact, the standard of assessment for the ‘Five Star Environmental Estate Award’ was very high. The Committee did not only scrutinize the data provided by the Estate Office, China Light & Power Co. Ltd. and Water Authority, (pinpointing the quantity of waste paper and cans collected, as well as the amount of energy and water saved), but also taken into consideration the level of cleanliness and greenery of the Estate.

This year, through continuous and devoted environmental efforts, Wonderland Villas won the following awards:

1) Waste Paper Category - Private Estate Champion

2) Aluminium Cans Category - Overall 2nd Runner-up

3) Plastic Bottles Category - Overall 1st runner-up and Private Estate Champion.

All the above success proves that Hong Yip Service Co., Ltd. and Wonderland Villas Owners' Committee have made their best efforts to promote and to educate the residents, especially the youngsters, the importance of recycling so as to conserve the environment.
